This List is SO Large, I will have to build it little by little. Nothing like a cup of coffee and a great book of art on a rainy day.... Here are a few of my many favorites, which I will continue to add over time:

Classical Painting Atelier By Juliette Aristides

Juliette's first book, as a dynamic return to the atelier educational model. Ateliers, popular in the nineteenth century, teach emerging artists by pairing them with a master artist over a period of years. The educational process begins as students copy masterworks, then gradually progress to painting as their skills develop. The many artists at every level who learned from Classical Drawing Atelier have been clamoring for more of this sophisticated approach to teaching and learning. In Classical Painting Atelier Aristides, a leader in the atelier movement, takes students step-by-step through the finest works of Old Masters and today’s most respected realist artists.

This book provides simple, insightful approaches to the
complex subject of human anatomy, using drawings, diagrams, and
reader-friendly text. Three major sections–the skeletal form, the
muscular form and action of the muscles, and movement–break the material
down into easy-to-understand pieces. More than 800 distinctive
illustrations detail the movement and actions of the bones and muscles, and unique charts reveal the origins and insertions of the muscles. Packed with an extraordinary wealth of information. I have many anatomy books. Lv this one!

Every mentor I have had has asked me to get this little book. It's a classic. Comprehensive discussions and drawings cover the eyes; nose, mouth and  chin; ear; head, trunk, back and hips; neck, throat, and shoulder;  shoulder and arm; hand and wrist; leg; foot; the complete figure; and other interdependent groups of structures. This is the human figure as  the artist, art student, and art teacher must know it in order to avoid many deceptive errors unfortunately common in much modern portraiture, painting, and illustrative art.

James Gurney, Color and Light, bridges the gap between abstract theory and
practical knowledge. Beginning with a survey of underappreciated masters who perfected the use of color and light, the book examines how light reveals form, the properties of color and pigments, and the wide variety of atmospheric effects. Gurney cuts though the confusing and contradictory dogma about color, testing it in the light of science an observation. A glossary, pigment index, and bibliography complete what will ultimately become an indispensable tool for any artist
.

Robert Henri would not relate directly to his students while they were working; instead he would return to the classroom when it was empty, observe the various works of his students, and leave them notes to encourage and give direction to their
work. Mostly these notes were poetic, metaphorical, oblique to the actual work.
Henri, this great artistic soul, spoke through the work of his students, to the
essential artist in them, deepening their connection to this in themselves and  opening the doors for this essential artist to a truer expression. This book is a collection of those notes.

This is a gorgeously printed and produced book, with Caravaggio's
difficult-to-reproduce chiaroscuro images presented in deep rich
clarity. The pictures are marvelous with fold out pages throughout for added detail. Fans of this artist will not be disappointed. The book is also very well bound. The cover art is Judith which is one Caravaggio's more gruesome pieces but she makes a striking facial study for the cover. It almost feels like she is studying the art herself.

I bought this book this book in Kiev, Ukraine a few years ago while visiting. I also had to buy a carry-on suitcase to bring it. It weighs 19 pounds. Every page is covered with magnificent illustrations of the best Russian Masters' Landscape paintings throughout the centuries. Their love and accord with nature is evident and well depicted. The text is in English and Russian. If you are a landscape painter or collect art books, this one you must have. Not sure how you can get it in the USA, but here is the

A must have! Barocci's art combines the Renaissance focus on the human body with an unparalleled use of color and light. He created dynamic compositions that challenged the limitations of traditional pictorial boundaries, becoming a model for Baroque artists of the following century. Nearly 1,500 drawings by Barocci survive, providing invaluable insight into the artist's process and thinking. Great - high quality illustrations!
